The Victron SmartShunt 1000A is a standalone battery monitor designed for professional solar, off-grid and marine installations where accurate state-of-charge tracking is essential. It connects directly to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, removing the need for a separate display unit. Suitable for any battery chemistry, it suits installers and system integrators who need reliable monitoring without additional hardware overhead.
The SmartShunt replaces the traditional shunt-plus-display combination by integrating all monitoring electronics directly into the shunt body. All data is transmitted over Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app, which provides a clear dashboard of battery status in real time. This makes it particularly practical in installations where panel space is limited or where a permanent display is unnecessary, such as in battery enclosures, camper van builds or remote off-grid cabinets.
The 1000A rating makes this variant appropriate for larger systems: high-capacity lithium battery banks, parallel battery configurations and heavy-load DC systems in commercial vehicles or vessels. The VE.Direct port means the SmartShunt can feed data directly into a Victron GX device, making it a straightforward addition to any Victron-based system that uses the VRM portal for remote monitoring. Battery parameters are fully configurable, so the monitor can be calibrated accurately to the specific battery bank in use.
Unlike a BMV battery monitor, the SmartShunt has no display of its own. If a permanent on-panel readout is required, a BMV-712 or a GX display is the appropriate choice. For installations where app-based or remote monitoring is sufficient, the SmartShunt offers the same measurement accuracy in a smaller, lower-cost package.

The SmartShunt must be installed in the negative battery cable between the battery negative terminal and all other negative connections in the system. All negative loads and charge sources must return through the shunt to ensure accurate current measurement. Installation in high-current DC systems should be carried out by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator. For marine installations, follow applicable wiring standards for the vessel type. The unit does not require a separate power supply beyond the battery connection itself.
