The Red Onyx Shrimp shows brilliant hues of maroon and dark red on a chocolate and black base shrimp variant of the popular Neocaridina davidi species! Females of this color variant will be much more colorful than the males. Most males will not exhibit the rusty red coloration, but most females will. This is one of the newest forms in the ever-growing varieties of this hardy, easy-to-keep dwarf shrimp species. This color gene is still too new to breed true the vast majority of the time so colors may vary upon arrival but they will all be from the colony we are breeding.

These shrimp are young (around 1/6 inch to 3/4 inch in length), but will grow up to be 1 inch on average as fully grown adults. Young shrimp will ship and acclimate better to your aquarium. Just be weary when adding them to a tank with fish as some fish may find these young shrimp as food. 

Some of the younger shrimp have not reached their full potential yet and will become brighter in color as long as they are comfortable in the tank.  Lower intensity lighting and dark substrate also helps them achieve the brightest coloration.
