Our Alaw Bassoon Reed is a professional-tier UK-made bassoon reed in our own range, hand-finished by a professional bassoonist. Warm, centred tone with a clean response across the bassoon's full range, for advanced players who need a reed they can pick up and play with confidence. The name comes from the Welsh word for melody, fitting for a reed built to sing.

Warm, centred, and reliable

The Alaw sits firmly in the middle of the bassoon's tonal range: warm without being woolly, focused without being thin. It articulates cleanly, holds intonation across the registers, and responds from soft entries through to full dynamics. Each reed is tested before it leaves the bench, so you're not starting your week trying half a box to find one that works.

Hand-finished, not factory-made

The Alaw is hand-made in the UK, end to end. Cane is selected, gouged, shaped, profiled, and tied here, then scraped and finished by a professional bassoonist. That hands-on approach gives the reed the small, considered refinements machine-made reeds can't replicate, and means each Alaw reflects a player's judgement of what plays well.
