Four Roses 9 Year 5 Month Old Private Barrel Selection OESV Recipe Kentucky Bourbon Festival 2025 Exclusive Signed by Brent Elliot Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (2025) 75cl

An exclusive single barrel of Four Roses bourbon that are the rarest kind that barely hit the UK market. This one has been released for the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and sold out to long lines waiting to have one signed by Brent Elliot, the master distiller himself.

OESV translates to a 75% corn, 20% rye, 5% barley mashbill and a personality that is “delicate fruit and caramel. Bourbon that’s not overly fruity, spicy, herbal or floral. Its light fruit flavours of pear and apricot balance nicely with corn and rye notes to achieve an elegant, nuanced Bourbon.”

Of the 10 (soon to be 20) bourbon recipes from Four Roses, the brand and their Master Distiller Brent Elliott describe 'OESV' as the most delicate. It uses the 'E' mashbill, which is the lower-rye version of the two current options: 75% corn, 20% rye, and 5% malted barley. It also uses the 'V' yeast strain, which is said to add some light, delicate fruit notes to the bourbon.

About Four Roses

Four Roses Bourbon has a longstanding and eventful history, both in the United States and internationally. The story of the bourbon’s founding is quite charming. Legend has it that founder Paul Jones Jr. came up with the Four Roses name after being smitten with a Southern belle to whom he proposed. He told her that if she agreed to marry him, she would wear a corsage of roses to an upcoming ball. She said yes, and chose to wear a 4 red rose corsage, hence the name.

The bourbon was officially founded in 1888 in Louisville, Kentucky, but Paul Jones Jr. claimed to have been making this bourbon starting in the 1860s. Paul purchased Frankfort Distilling Co. in 1922 and the business flourished. In 1940, Seagram purchased Frankfort, also acquiring the Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon business. Four Roses was the top-selling bourbon in the U.S. from the ’30s to the ’50s, but they decided to stop selling it in the U.S. and focused instead on the growing European and Asian markets, in which it also became the top-selling bourbon. Seagram then focused solely on a blended whiskey version of Four Roses for the U.S., which damaged the brand’s domestic reputation, putting it in the “rotgut” category.

It all started with a marriage proposal and a corsage of four roses... Explore the story of how a romantic gesture grew to help establish one of the world's most beloved bourbon brands.

In 1922, the Paul Jones Company purchased the Frankfort Distilling Company. Along with this purchase came the rights to sell Four Roses as a medical whiskey during Prohibition. Thus, making Four Roses one of the few bourbon brands to survive Prohibition.

Seagram purchased the Frankfort Distilling Co. primarily to acquire the most noted and recognized name in the business – Four Roses. Even though Four Roses was one of the top-selling Bourbons in the U.S. during the 30s, 40s, and 50s, Seagram decided to discontinue the sale of Four Roses’ Kentucky Straight Bourbon in the United States. Four Roses was moved to the rapidly growing European and Asian markets, where it quickly became, and still is, a top-selling Bourbon in both Europe and Japan.

A young man named Jim Rutledge, who would later become one of the world’s most legendary Master Distillers, joined Seagram in the Louisville Plant’s Research and Development Department. In 1975, he was transferred to Corporate Headquarters in New York until 1992, when Jim asked to return home to Kentucky to help with the Four Roses brand. In 1995, he replaced Ova Haney as the Master Distiller. For the next several years, Jim worked tirelessly to return the Four Roses brand back to the States – a dream that would become a reality in the hands of a new owner.

Domestic revival came in 2002, when the Kirin Brewery Company purchased Four Roses brand, naming the business Four Roses Distillery LLC. Once again, Four Roses proved its popularity in the U.S. and is now a loved and top selling bourbon.

Icon and legend, Al Young was named Four Roses Brand Ambassador after 40 years in various roles, including distillery manager. Al’s particular knack for storytelling, history, and connecting with consumers helped the brand build the recognition and reputation that Four Roses enjoys today.

August 2015, Jim Rutledge retired as Master Distiller and Brent Elliott, who had worked alongside Jim for 10 years, became the company’s new Master Distiller.

Current Master Distiller, Brent Elliott, was named Master Distiller/Blender of the year at the Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky America award ceremony. Brent, to this day, plays an integral role in the growth & maintains continued passion for creating premium bourbons at Four Roses.
