The Victron Energy LiFePO4 Battery 12.8V 100Ah NG is a lithium iron phosphate drop-in battery designed for 12V solar, marine, and off-grid applications. It replaces conventional lead-acid batteries in systems where weight, cycle life, and depth of discharge are critical factors. The NG (New Generation) series incorporates an integrated battery management system (BMS) within the cell housing.
LiFePO4 chemistry is the preferred lithium technology for energy storage in solar and off-grid systems. Unlike other lithium-ion chemistries, LiFePO4 cells operate at a lower energy density but offer considerably better thermal stability and a longer service life. For a professional installer, this means fewer warranty callbacks and a battery that performs predictably across a wide range of ambient temperatures.
The NG designation indicates Victron's current production generation of this battery. The internal BMS communicates with compatible Victron devices, allowing the system to respond correctly to battery state-of-charge and protection events. When used with a Victron Battery Monitor or GX device, full battery data is available for remote monitoring via VRM. The 100Ah capacity at 12.8V makes this a practical single-unit solution for smaller off-grid systems, or a building block for larger battery banks.
At 9.5kg, this battery is substantially lighter than a comparable AGM or flooded lead-acid unit, which typically weighs 25 to 30kg for the same nominal capacity. This weight difference is relevant for van conversions, narrowboats, and any installation where floor loading or handling is a practical concern.
This battery should be installed by a qualified electrician or accredited installer familiar with lithium battery systems. Ensure your charge controller and inverter/charger are configured with a lithium-compatible charging profile before connecting. Do not use chargers set to AGM or flooded lead-acid profiles. When connecting multiple units in series or parallel, all batteries should be of the same type, age, and state of charge before linking. For solar PV systems connected to the grid, G98 or G99 compliance requirements apply to the inverter, not the battery, but the overall system design must be reviewed by a qualified installer.
