A vintage Japanese shell collection, presented on a printed card behind a clear plastic cover and housed in its original printed header board. Twenty-five shells are mounted and individually labelled with both common genus name and Latin binomial, covering a fine range of species including Pecten, Strombus, Cypraea, Lunella, Meretrix, Babylonia, Chlamys, and more.
Collections like this were produced in Japan from the 1950s through 1970s. The shells themselves are real and varied, and the printed labelling gives it an almost botanical illustration quality.
It would be wonderful framed behind glass, with the header card included or trimmed away depending on taste.
Condition: Header card has wear and some tearing at the top right corner and along the edges. Cover is intact. Shells all appear present and well-mounted. Card insert has some waves ie not perfectly flat.
Dimensions: Card insert 19.5 cm wide x 23.5 cm high
