This hand knotted wool vintage Berber Moroccan Azilal rug features a center row of stacked diamonds within diamonds flanked by zigzag lines creating a thin border. The zigzag lines are flanked by an outer row of stacked diamonds in solid colors. The all-over diamond pattern is spread across an abrashed field of blue and teal bands. It is enclosed with small black and beige ivory bands (dash-marks along the vertical sides). The tribal symbols of diamonds, lozenges, eyes, symbolize womanhood, beauty, fertility, and protection. The rectangular bands and zigzag lines along the sides traditionally represent snakes, which are seen as a male motif.
