The Victron Centaur 24/60 is a three-output mains-powered battery charger designed for professional and commercial applications where multiple battery banks need to be charged simultaneously. It accepts a wide AC input range of 120 to 240V, making it suitable for use across the UK, Europe and beyond.
The Centaur range uses a transformer-based design rather than high-frequency switching, which gives it a high tolerance for poor or unstable mains supplies. This makes it well suited to marine, vehicle, generator and industrial environments where mains quality cannot be guaranteed. The 24V/60A output is split across three separate terminals, allowing a primary starter battery, a domestic or auxiliary bank, and a third bank to be charged from a single unit.
The adaptive four-stage charging profile means the charger adjusts its behaviour based on what the battery actually needs rather than following a fixed time-based cycle. During the absorption phase, the charger monitors current draw and moves to float only when the battery is genuinely full. A storage mode further reduces voltage to minimise electrolyte loss and grid consumption when batteries are left connected for extended periods.
Temperature compensation is handled via a built-in sensor, with an optional external sensor available for installations where the charger and battery are in different locations. This is particularly relevant in engine rooms or battery compartments where ambient temperatures can vary significantly.

The Centaur 24/60 is a hardwired unit and must be installed by a qualified electrician. The AC input should be protected by an appropriately rated circuit breaker and connected in accordance with local wiring regulations. In the UK, this means compliance with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit, as the transformer-based design generates heat under sustained high-current charging. Battery connections should be made with correctly rated cable and fused as close to the battery terminals as practical.
