Maya Hayuk's artistic journey formally began with a degree in Interrelated Media from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1991. Her educational pursuits also took her to the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, the University of Odessa in Ukraine, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.Her artworks are distinguished by harmonious structures and vivid colors. She employs intense hues and intricate geometric patterns, often evoking a psychedelic aesthetic. Themes of sexuality and spirituality permeate her work, conveyed through symbolic imagery and intricate geometries. Hayuk's large-scale compositions, pulsating with vitality, love, and joy, are crafted using diverse materials such as ink, acrylic, spray paint, tape, and wheat paste.Drawing inspiration from diverse sources, Hayuk's murals often echo influences from the former Soviet Union, incorporating intricate patterns reminiscent of Ukrainian Easter eggs. Mexican woven blankets, mandalas, Rorschach tests, and holograms also inform her creative process.Hayuk's artistic portfolio includes solo exhibitions and commissions at prestigious venues worldwide, such as The Bowery Wall in New York, The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto.
