The character of Ace, represents American grit, fearlessness and courage. The theme is a new reflection on the strength of the fighting men of the WWII era. Although he is of no great size, he makes up for it with courage. His feathers are not white and clean, as an angels’, they are dirty and sooty, like those of a bird of prey.

In the background, one can find references to WWII era “nose art.” Note the skeleton in the upper right hand corner, looking for his target: “Death from Above.” There is a subtly placed ace of hearts playing card in the upper left hand corner, alluding to the characters name, his duty as an aviator and the gamble he is willing to take with his life.

At the very top right corner, there is a passage from scripture “They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.”
