Illustrations: Complete with the nine very nice illustrations by Henry Holiday. The book also includes the "blank" ocean chart, the attribution of which remains uncertain. While traditionally attributed to Holiday, recent discussions suggest it may have been the work of another hand, possibly arranged by Carroll himself or a typesetter commissioned by him.

On the front board is a gilt image of a Bellman and on the rear board is a slightly smaller image of a Beaver. The Hunting of the Snark (An Agony in 8 Fits) is a poem written by English writer Lewis Carroll. It is typically categorized as a nonsense poem. Written from 1874 to 1876, the poem borrows the setting, some creatures, and eight portmanteau words from Carroll's earlier poem "Jabberwocky" in his children's novel Through the Looking-Glass (1871).
