Shata-Dhauta Ghrita is the oldest cream in Ayurveda — clarified butter washed 108 times in cool water, in a copper vessel, by hand.

The preparation is named in the Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita and has not changed. Shata, one hundred. Dhauta, washed. Ghrita, ghee. 

Over the course of the wash, the ghee changes. It lightens. It pales. It aerates. What begins as dense golden ghee finishes as a soft, white, whipped cream — cool to the touch, weightless on the skin, holding none of the heaviness of its source.

For skin that runs hot. After sun. Under the eyes. Wherever the surface asks to be cooled.
